Nissan Repair: OBD port, obd scanner, nissan frontier

Question
I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier. The "service engine" light came on so I took it to be diagnosed. When the OBD scanner was hooked to the OBD port that's under the dash, the scanner did'nt come on. I was told that the OBD port was not working. Have you ever heard of this problem?

Answer
Tim,

Try taking the truck to Autozone or Checker and get them to read it.  The service is free.  I have three scanners myself and some scanners just won't work on certain vehicles.  If no one can read the codes then you are going to have to pull the plug and inspect the pins to see if some are puched back in the connector or not connected to the wiring.  If all of the above is not working then it is time to look at the computer itself.  This is the one in the vehicle that is supposed to communicate with the plugged in scanner.  But, first I would get the truck scanned with a different unit.  Remember, it is free at the two places I mentioned and the nice part is they will let you know what part you need to purchase and even turn the light out after you replace the part.
