Nissan Repair: @004 Sentra Transmission Flush, pan gasket, haynes manual

Question
I just got my 2004 sentra back from the dealer and they recomened that i flush my automatic transmission. Is this something i can do myself and if so how woulod i go about doing it. Thanks for any help

Answer
Bob,

There is no reason to flush the transmission unless you are really into paying over $100 bucks to get a flush.  All you need to do is get a filter kit that comes with a pan gasket and remove the pan and drain the fluid and replace the filter and gasket.  Use no sealer on the gasket as bits of sealer would contaminate the fluid.  Should take about 4 to 5 quarts of fluid.  If the car is under warranty make sure you keep the receipts and document that you did the change.  Do not over tighten the bolts and if you have a Chilton or Haynes Manual that would be good to show you with diagrams and photographs how to do the job.
