Nissan Repair: 1996 nissan quest fuel pump, haynes manual, gas gauge

Question
The fuel pump on my Nissan quest just went out. What is the easiest way to replace one and how much more trouble would it be to replace the sender unit to the gas gauge while we are in there? Thank you!!

Answer
Brazos,

The pump can be changed without replacement of the sending unit.  If your fuel gauge works I would not bother.  Simply get the van on stands and disconnect the straps holding the tank to the vehicle.  Also, you are going to have to remove the fuel filler hose and vent and the fuel lines along with the electrical connector.  It is best to have the fuel tank as close to empty as possible.  Also, have a second person with a fire extinguisher and keep drop lights safe to keep from dropping them and having a spark.  A Haynes Manual is good since it the pictures to show you the way.  Lastly, have good airflow so you are not getting sick from the fumes.
