Nissan Repair: 91 240sx shutting off, nissan 240sx, fuel pressure

Question
I have a 91 nissan 240sx with the 4 cylinder engine. My car suddenly shut off one night while driving it. I pulled over and tried to start the car and had a very hard time starting it back up. It finally turned over after several tries. I smelled gasoline pretty heavily and found a leak to the left side on the bottom end of what I believe is the fuel pump. I replaced the hose. started my car and tried to drive it and shut off around after 2000 rpms. Still is having the same problem it had before I replaced the hose. It will start every so often and have noticed it starts a little easier when it's rolling versus starting it at a dead stop. When it does start it idles either high or very low, like it's struggling to run.

What should I look for? What do you think the problem may be?
Any information you can give me would be of great help.

Sincerely,

Aaron Gainesville, FL

Answer
Aaron,

I would check the fuel pressure first and see if you are getting too much pressure.  Also, if the plugs are not reasonably new I would change them.  Also, be sure that there is not a plugged fuel filter.  Lastly, check the ignition for proper spark.  If your distributor is contaminated with oil it will need to be replaced.
