Nissan Repair: Auto repair, mass air flow, mass airflow sensor

Question
2000 nissan maxima Is the Idle air control valve and the Mass air flow motor both together. or the same thing? Cuz i was told i need to replace my idle air control valve. My car dies when idling in the morning?

Answer
Al,

The idle air control valve is on the throttle body, back by the firewall.  Follow the intake hose from the airbox to the engine and look on the side of it.  The mass airflow sensor is bolted to the air filter box and it is what that big hose that connects to from the throttle body.  The idle air control valve is really an easy change on your year.  I have a 2000 Maxima SE and it is great to work on.  Buy the new one and you will see what the part looks like.  Just unbolt and unplug and replace with the new one.  If the passage is dirty spray a little carburetor cleaner in the passage before installing the new one.  When you start it it will be like it is flooded from the carburetor cleaner so just hold the throttle a little to clear out the cleaner.
