Nissan Repair: auto will not shift out of low, nissan pulsar, valve body

Question
1992 Nissan pulsar 1600 automatic will not shift out low  (D)fluid level ok & clean no burned smell, told it my be a stuck valve body ????? major or minor repair, any help will be appreciated

Answer
Mark,

It could be a stuck part in the valve body or the governor itself not allowing the shift.  If you have not gone through an automatic I would find a good local shop to check it out.  Depending on the condition of your vehicle the cost might be too much.  A wrecking yard transmission is an alternative if your costs too much to repair.  If it were me I would do the following.  If you would change the filter and fluid and see how it works.  If it is the same I would get it looked at to verify the valve body or the governor.  If they quote a $1000 or more I would source one from a wrecking yard and install that instead.
