Nissan Repair: 89 4x4 v6 auto, ray wiggins, torque converter

hi my name is ray wiggins i replaced engine in this pickup 18 months ago i put an engine out of a 93 nissan van in telling you this i,m a little mechanical incline.i replaced everything on front of engine oil pump up to make work.don,t know much about auto trans. trans.always litte slow on last shift untill driven app. 1 mile then would be fine soild shift rest of the day.that way,s little back ground.fluid looks good.will not respound to any gear goes in park fine ,xteranal shifter seems to be working.have not pulled pan yet ? no noise.could filter have out an not be picking fluid,or front pump,can it be changed with out complete breakdown does it bolt on in front of trans from outside in.hope this makes sense first time trying such a service.thanks a million far your time ..... If the torque converter is connected to the flexplate properly after the engine sway I would assume the transmission is sucking air at the filter or the pump or converter is defective.  That is, since you say the shifter is working properly.  First, I would pull the pan and inspect the filter.  If the filter is fine and you got out about four quarts then I would think the torque converter is gone or the pump has failed.  The pump is behind the converter and you have to remove the transmission to get to it.
