If the airbag light is on an error has been detected and needs to be addressed.  You will have to find a shop that has an airbag scanner.  The dealer will charge $100 bucks unless you know someone.  A body shop charges about $65 as the going rate to read the error code.  The airbag computer is pretty smart and communicates with all airbags and if communication fails it will record the one that is defective.  It would cost too much to replace everything so getting the code lets you know what needs to be replaced.
