Nissan Repair: 2004 nissan maxima se - Service Engine Soon, nissan maxima se, 2004 nissan maxima

Question
Hello,
I just bought a used 2004 max SE. And today was the first time I had to put in fuel. The low fuel indicator light came on, the Service Engine Light also came on. I immediately filled up the tank. The low fuel indicator came off, but the service engine light remains on. Is it normal for the Service Engine Soon light to come on when there is low fuel? And will it go away. And roughly how much fuel is left in the tank(reserve) when the low fuel light indicator is on?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Ameet,

The low fuel light should come on at 2.5 gallons of gas so this did not cause the check engine light to come on.  I would take the car to Autozone or Checker to get the code checked for free.  Once you know the code email me back with it and we'll get it corrected.  I would think the gas cap being loose is the most common cause on a late model Nissan since the gas cap is not like the old kind.  Remember to make it click three times to make sure it is tight.  Email me back with the code if it does not go out.
