Nissan Repair: Stud broken--$136 labor charge, nissan dealership, speciality shop

Question
Hi--  My 62 year old mom just took her 1998 (i think) Pathfinder to the Nissan dealership service shop just to get the brakes checked and the tires rotated.  Apparently, the dealership mechanics broke a stud when they were rotating the tires.  They then proceeded to charge her $136 for labor to replace it.  The more info I'm finding, the more convinced I am becoming that she got taken for a bit of a ride.  Your thoughts?

Answer
David,

Unfortunately, the stud breaking is something that happens.  I would think the price is a bit high but they do not cover damage to studs since it could have been compromised prior to her going to that dealership.  Could have been that last tire change that caused the weak stud.  Plus, the dealer is probably the highest hourly service to do repairs.  I would find a speciality shop that is trusted in her town and leave the dealership to tasks that only they are equipped to perform.  Probably, $85 bucks an hour for labor and an hour and parts and that is the cost they stuck her with.  Remember, that I am not a fan of the dealership so I am not siding with them.  But, they were nice enough to correct the problem even though dealer costs for work are more...
