Nissan Repair: N13 1990 Pulsar air con compressor, n13 pulsar, receiver dryer

Question
Hello,
I've had my air con compressor recently seize on my 1990 N13 pulsar and I wanted to put in a good quality secondhand compressor I was able to purchase.  Can you please point out any major obstacles I would need to look out for in general as i have not been able to find a mechanic that wants to just change the compressor.  They all want to revamp the whole system.  The air-con was working fine before it seized, if I can get away with just changing the compressor then I'll be happy, I dont want to spend thousands on revamping the whole thing.  I was hoping to change over the compressor and then take it to someone to have it gassed.  Do you think that is possible?  I have a basic workshop manual but it does not have anything about changing the compressor.  THANKS.

Answer
Ralph,

Spend $20 bucks and get the Haynes airconditioning book from the parts store.  Note the amount of refrigerant oil the compressor holds and add new oil to get it correct.  Replace the receiver dryer along with the compressor and use new o-rings and coat them with the same refrigerant oil you used for the compressor.  Now, have it evacuated and charged and you should be good to go.
