Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan Pathfinder, nissan pathfinder, master switch

Question
QUESTION: 95 Nissan pathfinder I had a rear right power window that will roll down but not up.  It will roll up every once in a while but will get stuck while down.  I changed the regulator and motor and the new one would go down but not up. When I press switch down I can here it click but nothing when I try to press up.  Also I plugged the old motor into the the switch and it only spins one direction in one switch position.  Should I try the switch in another door/window?  I took the switch apart and it looked ok.  Do I need to do something else?

ANSWER: Matt,

It is usually the master switch on the driver's door that screws up.  Since yours is over ten years old I would think that would be the place to start.  I have replaced many of these switches...  Personally, I have replaced two on my 2000 Maxima.  Water gets into my switch from opening the door when it rains.  It does not take much water to cook the contacts.  Since yours goes up sometimes and down all the time that tells me it is the switch.

QUESTION: Is that where the power comes (the master switch) from because I found out that I could roll up the window after reversing the wires at the rear door switch.  I suspect that I am not getting power from that one wire.  Perhaps the master switch isn't sending power that way or not getting it.

Thanks
Matt

Answer
Matt,

I do not know if I could be more specific in answering your question in regard to the window switch.  The master window switch is the most common problem with windows not rolling up or down since it gets worked the most.  But, the individual switches on the doors do go out and after ten years I would expect such.  When you expounded on the problem saying the back window would go up if you reversed the contacts on the back door window switch that lets me know that the up contacts on that door are burnt and not making goo contact.  I say burnt and not making good contact since you described the window going up sometimes.  So, replace the rear door window switch, the one on the door where the window does not work.  If you would like, before you replace the switch try switching one out from one of the other doors that works to make sure.  If you need anything else please feel free to eamil me back on the form and we'll discuss further.  And, have a wonderful Labor Day.
