Nissan Repair: 98 nissan quest ac is not taking charge, nissan quest, pressure switch

Question
Hi . I have 98 nissan quest and did evacuate the system than try to charge it took only 8 ounces of freon. The low side pressure was 60-70 and hi about 150. The compresor was turning on and off every 3 seconds. Can you help me with my problem .thanks jack.

Answer
Jack,

If the system was evacuated and then you put in R134 it should take it.  Now, you might have to bridge the pressure switch to get the compressor to run long enough to take in enough R134 to keep the pressure switch from cutting off the compressor.  Use a length of wire to bridge the connector that plugs into the pressure switch.  After you have two cans in the system remove the wire and reconnect it to the pressure switch and it should run fine.  If it does not and the pressure stays low, as you indicated, the compressor has failed internally and should be replaced.  But, from my experience it is just due to the pressure switch.
