Nissan Repair: Flywheel replacement on 1986 Nissan 2-wheel drive Pickup, bolt holes, clutch replacement

Question
Hi Von,  Thank you very much for your previous answer.  Thanks to you I have was able to remove the torsion bars from my pickup to facilitate my clutch replacement.  The transmission is now out.

My question this time is concerning replacing the flywheel on the truck.

My manual says to use paint to mark the old flywheel to the crankshaft for correct alignment when replacing.

I have a clutch - flywheel combo replacement kit.  Does my new (resurfaced I believe) flywheel have to be aligned in a particular way to the the crankshaft for balance?  If so how do I do this?

Thank you for your answer,

John

Answer
John,

A couple of ways to make sure it is installed correctly.  First, match up the flywheel with the old one and make sure if there is an offset weight that you set up the new one the same.  Second is that most of the time the bolt holes will only line up one way on the crankshaft.  Be sure to install a new pilot bushing.  This is in the end of the crankshaft.
