Nissan Repair: Gas gauge isnt correct., gas gauge, float sensor

Question
Hello, I know this is not a car. But it is a Nissan. There is not a truck expert that I can see on this network. But my gas gauge is acting strange. (1993 se.v6 king cab) Sometimes it will show half full, even after I have just filled up. Now it is sometime showing empty when I know I have a full tank. Is this an easy fix.

Answer
i would say based on my experience, when this happens 9 times out of 10 its your sensor on your fuel pump.  you have a float attached to your fuel pump/sending unit, and the float is connected to a sensor which detects the amount of fuel in your tank.  the cheapest way around this would be to find a local junk yard and just replace the entire sending unit, or just replace the float/sensor.  im not sure if you have an access panel to your tank, im assuming not due to a truck, but you may have to drop your tank for this job.  not too hard, but give yourself enough time where you aren't rushed and remember to relieve the pressure from the tank and be careful when removing your tank not to tear any of the wiring to the sending unit.  if this type of mechanics is out of your range, an estimate at a garage will run you around 125-200 labor alone.  good luck with this and let me know the outcome.  thanks.  xxp_sebby@yahoo.com
