Nissan Repair: 1987 200SX, cylinder lubricant, cam followers

Question
Hi,
I just bought a 1987 200SX with the CA20(E) engine. It had been sitting for about 2 months beforehand. I checked all the fluids, started the car up and it sounded good. I drove it home(about 30 min) and when I got home I heard a fairly loud ticking noise coming from the engine. I think it is a sticking valve. What do you think? If so is it easy to fix? Also if I drove it for the 30 min like that would it have caused harm? Thanks.

Answer
Dave,

The cam followers are probably sticking.  Add a can of top cylinder lubricant to the oil and then drive it for a day and change hte oil.  Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic will help free things up more.  If the noise continues, remove the valve cover and adjust the lash on the rockers to what the sticker shows under the hood.  Should be something like .013 to .015.  But, do check under the hood for the hot lash adjustment as I am only going from memory.
