Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Maxima -Automatic/VQ30DE, air flow meter, air control valve

Question
QUESTION: Hi Von,

I read your thread about your daughter's car stalling w/o notice and then starting back up. I too am have the same issue w/ my 95 and have had it at the mechanics for two weeks now. They have ran test after test and found nothing and recently replaced the Idle Control Valve but still had it die on me but always start up. I quickly drove it back to the mechanic. Have you resolved this issue w/ your daughters car and if so can you please help me before end up pulling out all my hair?

ANSWER: Jabin,

It was the distributor with oil on the optics.  I replaced the distributor and the problem is gone.

QUESTION: Thank you Von for such a prompt response. However, I was baffled when my mechanic told me that my car doesn't have a distibutor. According to them distributors are on older models...not sure about this as i have not looked up this info on my car for myself. So far they have replaced the Idle Control Valve and the Air Flow Meter...I just picked up my car yesterday and it seems to be okay for now but I am test driving it a couple days before i pay for the parts so we'll see. Thanks again!

Answer
Jabin,

Yes, your car has coil packs.  I was thinking of my daughter's car when I answered that part of the question.  If the idle air control valve and air meter were replaced and there are no codes you should be fine.  Also, if it starts running bad you should check the coils by doing an ohms check to see that they are not shorting internally.  But, I would not think they are bad as Nissan did not have a problem until 1999 for coils.
