Nissan Repair: 1988 Nissan Pathfinder Clutch Replacement, nissan pathfinder, clutch replacement

Question
I'm having trouble replacing the clutch in my 1988 Nissan Pathfinder. The problem is gaining enough clearence between the transmission and clutch to allow for the old clutch to be removed and the new one installed. Do I have to remove the rear crossbeam that has the Torsion bars attached to it? This would allow the transmission to be lowered down but would require removing the Tortion Bars(something I'd rather not do).

Answer
Mark,

It is not really a big deal to get the tension off the torsion bars to remove the support beam.  You will have to get the transmission out to get the clutch out.  Yes, it is a pain to unload the torsion bars but not too difficult.  With the vehicle in the air half the tension is already released.  But, do mark them so you know how to retorque them.
