Nissan Repair: Nissan Cefiro A32 rough starting and check engine light, nissan cefiro, starter motor

Question
My 1995 A32 Nissan Cefiro (Maxima) has come back from long road trip during which time it ran beautifully. Now it doesn't always start well. Starter motor turns over fine, but the engine won't always start straight away as usual. I need to keep the starter motor turning for a while, and sometimes to pump the gas. It will always start eventually - but the yellow "check engine" light will appear and stay on. If I turn off and start again after this, it will start again straight away with no check engine light and no problem. This problem happens about once every three or so starts. Plugs, oil, airfilter are all under 3 months old, and it has been running until getting back from the road trip. I took it to a mechanic, but it started fine for him everytime so he said he couldn't help. Do you have any thoughts? Maybe the fuel filter? (May not have been changed in a very long time!) Thanks in advance

Answer
Ben,

Yes, I would change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure.  It sounds like an injector or two is sticking and flooding the engine on occasion.  Fill up with some good gas and see how it goes.  If you still have an injector or two hanging up you will need to have them addressed.  Also, if the mechanic can get a stored code you could email me back and I will address further.
