Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan 4X4 Pathfinder Transmission, nissan 4x4, shift forks

I was driving my Pathfinder on the tollway. It was performing normally until I got to the tollbooth. I pulled off and the transmission totally disengaged. It would not engage in any gear. There was no grinding, no burning smell, no pop or anything. Does this sound like a major repair or something minor?

If it is a manual and there is no grinding in any gear that would lead me to think the shift forks have come loose from the shifter.  If it is an automatic it is probably the torque converter.  Email me back and let me know if it is an automatic or a standard and we'll examine it further.
