Nissan Repair: clutch 200sx, home mechanic, clutch problems


Question
i have a 96 200sx 5speed 1.6 and im having clutch problems. whenever i give the car over half throttle in a gear with clutch fully disengaged the engine revs to about six grand stays there and then the speed decides to go up. and if you let off it will drop down to like 3 grand and catch so im assuming i need a new clutch but im poor this car was just wrecked and its all i have so all my money has gone into making this thing street legal. if i do need a new clutch how do i change one since i cannot afford a mechanic   please help

First get a Haynes Manual for the step by step process.  Then, go on-line to some place like rockauto.com and get a complete clutch kit so you will have all the parts you need.  I hope you have a good jack, stands and a set of metric tools.  It is a weekend job for a home mechanic.  Be sure to purchase new clutch cover bolts as part of the clutch kit.
