Nissan Repair: 96 pathfinder wont start after filling gas tank, neutral safety switch, gas tank

Question
I have a 96 pathfinder with 206K.  it has never failed me until recently.  last fill up w/ gas it started from the pump, I parked minutes later, and it would not start.  did not turn over or even click.  all other electrical is normal.  I hear the fuel pump.  fresh battery.  I towed it home, it started perfectly and did everytime after that until today when I filled up again.  it did not start at the pump.  I pushed it out of the way, and tried repeatedly.  I came back to it 5 hours later, it started right up, drove home.  it started twice again after getting it into the driveway, now it does not.  battery is good.  no error code.   any thoughts?  I am thinking some relay somewhere, but where do I start???  thanks very much.

Answer
Keith,

You either have a defective starter or a bad neutral safety switch.  I would bridge the starter with a length of wire to the small terminal to see if it will turn the engine over.  If you have a manual transmission make sure it is in neutral before doing this as to keep the vehicle from moving if the starter works.  If the starter is good then check the neutral safety switch for continuity.
