Nissan Repair: 1991 300ZX TT Brakes, 300zx tt, abs systems

Question
Thanks for the response on the brakes. I notice you recommend the Ford brake fluid a lot and in one of your replies you said not to use synthetic brake fluid because it doesn't work well with ABS systems. I used Valvoline synthetic brake fluid when I bled the Z's brakes (which is when the problem started) although the Valvoline label says it "maximizes ABS performance" or some such statement. Is your aversion to synthetic brake fluid with ABS a Nissan issue or something that covers all ABS systems? Is there anything about "synthetic" that causes this?
Thanks again.
Steve

Answer
Steve,

If synthetic brake fluid was introduced to the system there will be problems until it is flushed out.  I would use the Ford High Performance Brake Fluid and flush the system and after a couple of weeks I would bleed it again to get the contamination out.  Synthetic brake fluid has a different specific gravity and it screws with the ABS.  Ford High Performance Brake Fluid is DOT3 and does not.  Plus it has twice the boiling point of regular brake fluid.  It will take a couple of times to correct if synthetic brake fluid has been in the system.
