Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Altima wet start problem, nissan altima, altima gxe

Question
I have a 1995 Altima GXE w/ 175k miles which has treated me well over the years.  After the car sat for a week at the airport, it would not start.  The weather was snowy and damp.  After towing to garage, the car started the next day (warm and sunny).  I drove it home w/o issue, replaced spark plugs, wire harness, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter and air filter.  It worked fine for 3 weeks after rain or shine.  This morning, after sitting for 2 days in wet/damp weather it would not start again.  The battery and alternator were replaced last year so it seems ulikely to be the cause not to mention all electronics seem fine.  I can smell fuel (as in flooded) after trying to start for some time so fuel pump seems to work fine.  What else could it be? Distributor coil? Ignition?  Please help.

Answer
Mark,

I would check the distributor for signs of dampness and also remove the cover and look at the optical pickup and shutter wheel for the presense of oil.  Email me back with what you find.  If there is oil on the optics replace the distributor.  If there is moisture in the cap spritz WD40 and wipe out excess and it should start.
