Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Pathfinder Clutch fork, clutch slave cylinder, clutch fork

Question
Last weekend the clutch pedal on my 96 Pathfinder went flat to floor and I could no longer shift. The shop is telling me the clutch fork is broken which caused the clutch to "burn out" and that I now need to replace the clutch, the flywheel and bunch of other parts for a whopping 2200 bucks. Does this sound right? Why do I need to replace all this stuff if just the clutch fork is broken? Before this happened the trans was working fine.

Answer
Leo,

The shop did not explain the situation to you correctly.  The clutch and pressure plate went bad and that is what caused the fork to break.  Yes, it does cost but for a $X$ $2200 bucks does not sound out of the realm of possibilities.  You will probably need a new clutch slave cylinder as a result too.  I would get a second opinion quote before letting them proceed and get an itimized list of replaced parts along with those parts regardless of which shop you choose.
