Nissan Repair: 1993 nissan sentra 1.8L, nissan sentra, carburated

Question
Hi, i have a 93 sentra and i live in minnesota and on cold days or cold nights the car cranks but doesnt start sometimes it will, but starts during warm weather ok but everytime i start it i have to give it gas like its carburated when obviously its not and it runs really crappy for a but till i drive it for awhile then it runs better, so wats causing this? thanks for reading my question and thanx for your time.

Answer
Trevor,

The cold start valve or sensor could be defective.  There is a sensor on the block that tells the computer that the engine is cold.  This causes the engine to go into a rich mode to keep the engine running.  If the sensor is defective it will not go into cold start mode and the car will be difficult to start and it will run bad until it gets warm.  Also, you might get a block heater.
