Nissan Repair: glove compartment for a 1995 nissan 300z, nissan 300z, glove compartment

the glove compartment (unsure if this is the right terminology for the one located on the passenger side dashboard) on my friend's '95 nissan 300z will no longer close!  is there something wrong with the latch? a part, spring, etc. missing?  please help!!

Two things could be going on here.  The first is the lock assembly is not catching.  You can diagnose this by opening the glovebox and latching the assembly with a small screwdriver.  If it locks they unlocking it.  If it does both then it is just an adjustment issue.  I have seen the striker broken on some that have been slamed shut and I have seen them bent where they will not catch the lock.  Check these out and email me back.
