Nissan Repair: 97 Nissan Altima GXE, nissan altima, starter fluid

Question
recently my car decided not to start. It is not the newly replaced battery, it tries to turn over and the radio , etc all work. Sometimes w/ a squirt of starter fluid the car will start, but as soon as you let off the gas and it has to idle it shuts off. Thinking fuel pump?

Answer
before buying new parts, remove starter and alternator and have them both tested at an auto store (free).  if either is faulty it would cause your car to run improperly due to lack of electricity to the spark plugs.   if both are fine you can try to test the fuel pump by removing the fuel line directly after the fuel filter and placing the line into a bottle.  turn the key just for a second then turn off.  check to see if gas went into the bottle.  if you have no gas then you either have a faulty pump or a plugged fuel filter.  if you have gas then i would replace the plugs to see if this works.  if all else fails, try replacing the cap and rotor.  try all in this order to prevent unneeded buys. good luck!
