Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, nissan pathfinder, wd 40

Question
Hi Von,
I recently asked a question about a Pathfinder that my son had put into the water.  Took your advice, cleaned all the connectors, WD-40 spritz, etc.  It still didn't work after that and then I found I believe to be the culprit.  Upon visual inspection of the ECM, it had been wet and had some rust even.  My question is, can I replace the ECM after cleaning all the connectors there as well and expect that to be the solution?  I have found an ECM online for a reasonable price.  Are those replacements in this application usually succesful?  I have made sure the ECM # match.  Thanks for your help!

Jim

Answer
Jim,

If you do not have corrosion  on the connector you should be able to just plug the new ECM in.  Make sure the battery is disconnected before you make the swap and be sure to ground yourself to the vehicle.  Place a hand on the vehicle before you get in or touch the ECM to the vehicle.  So, basically, while holding the ECM touch the Pathfinder and if there is any chance of a static spark it will get you and not the ECM.  Other than that you should be fine.  Reconnect the battery after installation and you are in business.
