Nissan Repair: 2003 350z clutch & tcs slip indicator ?, stock clutch, clutch kit

Question
A few weeks ago while making a turn I noticed my "slip" light flashing on a few occasions (once every other day or so) now it is more often. I know my t o bearing making a lot of racket when sitting at a stop with the pedal released so I was going to be replacing the clutch soon anyhow but what I was wondering is could these 2 things directly related? and if I put a stage 1 or stage 3 clutch kit on the car do I have to replace the flywheel?

Answer
Francis,

The knocking noise while sitting, at idle, with the clutch released is the dual mass flywheel.  Kind of knocks.  I have one and I know this.  If it is making a whining noise that is the input shaft bearing.  With the transmission removed you can get that changed pretty easy.  If your clutch is not slipping you can probably just replace the clutch.  Since the flywheel is dual mass, the part the clutch cover bolts to and the part the clutch rests against actually is on a bearing and moves to lessen the shock of all that torque the engine puts out.  If you did not have the dual mass flywheel and the composite driveshaft the car would blow the rear end.  I would just put a stock clutch from Nissan back in the car.  I am on my second clutch and it works great.  If you are going to up the horsepower you might opt for a nismo unit.  The traction control and slip indicator flashing is probably an indication that the brake fluid needs to be changed.  I use Ford High Performance Brake Fluid in my Z and it works great.  It is DOT3 so it will not screw up the ABS or traction control.  Also, bleed the clutch.  You will need to go to a Ford dealer and ask for the fluid by name or they will sell you the regular brake fluid.
