Nissan Repair: 91 maxima transmission, shift linkage, clutch cable

I have a 91 standard maxima.  I am not able to get it our of gear.  I have checked the clutch cable which seems to be working okay.  However, the darn thing is tuck in 2nd or 4th gear.  The gear shift will not move what so ever.  Do you have an ideas what could be the issue?

I would think the shifter is stuck inside the transmission.  If you crawl under the car and remove the shifter linkage and try to shift it into neutral manually and it does not work it is definately the shifter stuck in the transmission.  Check and make sure the shifter linkage is not bent where it will not move and that is why I say to remove the shift linkage before you drop the transmission.
