Nissan Repair: 96 Sentra does not start, nissan cars, change couple

Question
I am living in the midwest and the temp is around zero these days. I never had any problem starting my sentra until yesterday morning (about -10F). I was trying to start for several times. At first there was some noise sounds like it's getting there. But then it just gives some ticking noise or may be beeping noise when I was holding on the ignition position. I floored the gas pedal and tried a few more times it's the same. My check engine light was on for a few days and it was the oxygen sensor malfunction. I did not fix it but the light was off by itself couple days ago. Is that related? When I had my oil change couple days ago, the tech said my engine and transmission are leaking. Is that related? Or could it be the starter? Thanks.

Answer
John,

Nissan cars do not work well in really cold environments.  In fact, they have service bulletins on the subject.  Anyway, a fully charged battery will help since it is so cold and you could install a block heater or park it inside.  The over rich condition from getting it to start is the reason for the oxygen sensor code and since it went out things are back to normal.  The leaks are unrelated.  Remember that the car is over ten years old.  You could replace some gaskets and seals if the leaks become too much to take.  I had a twenty year old Stanza and it ran great and leaked a little oil and I never had problems except with the wife making comments about the car marking its territory...
