Nissan Repair: Ignition Lock Cylinder, nissan altima gxe, nissan altima

Question
I have a 2001 NIssan Altima GXE and my key won't turn my ignition lock. The key moves in and out freely but wont turn. It's stuck. I've tried wiggling the wheel etc. to no avail. What should I do. If I need to replace the lock cylinder do I need special tools? Perhaps just the key??

Answer
Fred,

Have you tried the other keys?  Also, when you try to turn the key make sure the shifter is in part and you wiggle the wheel both ways hard as it could be torque locked.  If all else fails the column will have to be taken apart.  If you are not familiar I would call a locksmith.  Quite involved with an airbag.
