"I have an 95 Nissan Maxima, the computer indicared with 4 slow blinks and 7 fast blinks is it the crank sensor, would this be right since the car back fires when I try to start it but it will not start and sounds like the timing is out.I also got 5 slow blinks and 5 fast blinks from the computer, can you please help me.

Bill,

Sounds like the dictributor is defective to me.  I would open it up and check for oil on the optical pickup and shutter wheel.  Check it out and email me back with what you find.  Also, disconnect the battery and reconnect it and see if the codes reappear after you correct the distributor problem.

Answer
Sorry, I worked a 13 hour day before answering you.  The sensor is on the timing cover.  Also, check to see if it has jumped timing.  You can pull number one plug and run the engine over to top dead center by turning over the engine until number 1 comes up.  Check the position of the piston and then check the timing on the cams.  Email me back if you need more information.
