Nissan Repair: Nissan 1992 Pathfinder sound 5th gear, 5th gear, terrible sound

Goodday, I have just bought my 1st 4x4 and it is a Nissan 92 Pathfinder. Unfortunately it has this terrible sound on the 5th gear ratio. It is a manual and the mechanic told me it has a loose bearing in the gearbox. The strangest thing is that there is no sound on all the other gears. could you assist me as my mind is working overtime with not enough gear oil, etc,etc...

Fifth gear is on the other side of the case and it will make a nasty noise when the bearing goes out.  You could go with a synthetic oil to make it last a little longer.  But, it is probably on its way out. The nice part is that the bearing is pretty easy to access once the transmission is out of the vehicle.  The bad part is since it is a 4X4 it is a challenge to get it out of the vehicle.
