Nissan Repair: 02 Xterra makes sputtering sound, slow speeds, info thanks

Hello~
Our '02 Xterra has been making sputtering sounds when you press on the gas.(not at slow speeds, but when you get up to 35+ mph). The strange thing is it started out doing it once in a while, but is now doing alot. Do you have any idea what this noise would be from? We'd appreciate any info.

You probably need a tuneup.  If the plugs get loaded up and foul you will get the sputtering sound.  Also, if the injectors are plugging up or sticking you will get the same thing.  I would change the plugs, and air filter and fill up with premium and add a bottle of fuel injector cleaner.
