Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Pathfinder, starter solenoid, nissan pathfinder

Question
I own a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder. Lately when the vehicle is warmed up and I shut it off. It will not start. I cleaned the battery terminals and checked the fuses and relays. When I hit the solenoid with a hammer (lightly) then try it. It starts. Would this appear that the solenoid needs replacing, or could I drop it and oil it? Is there any maintenance that could be done? Or is this a matter of replacing the whole starter and solenoid? Should I try buying a new battery first? Thank You.

Answer
Hi Pedro,

You will need to replace the starter solenoid. There is no service for the solenoid. After market will sell as a whole unit including the starter. Nissan will sell just the solenoid. Part number 233430W010 for about $75 at Nissan and 1.1 book time to change it out including R&R of the starter.
