Question
I'm not getting spark i have all ready replaced the ignition coil and the battery i tried to jump the old  battery and i hooked up the jumper cables right on my buddies truck that i was using to jump my car, but i put the positive on the negative and the negative on the positive on my car i realized what i did and quickly disconnected it after looked and seen a little smoke from my car i also need to know what each electrical component is supposed to be ohmed to and how to ohm it.

Answer
Mike,

The distributor will probably need to be replaced to solve the ignition problem.  The batttery thing is going to be a pain.  If the cables were backwards you probably have some smoked electrical components.  First, check and replace all fuses blown and that includes those at the positive batery cable.  Now, that means the fuse links too.  The polarity reversal could also cause the radio to blow internally and the computer that runs the engine.  You might get lucky and check the fuse links and fuses and then change the distributor and get a fully charged battery and see how things go.  Also, once you get it started you might discover that the diodes in the alternator are blown too.  It just depends on how long the cables were hooked up wrong.
