Nissan Repair: 88 pulsar wont crank with key & no spark, inhibitor switch, nissan pulsar

Question
My 88 nissan pulsar with the E16I engine with autotrans will not turn over with the key. I have traced the power from the ignition switch to the inhibitor relay. This is where it stops ,I have replaced the relay and the inhibitor switch on the trans. The inhibitor relay has four wires, two large wires from ignition through relay to starter. Two smaller wires one that comes from the ECU but don't know where it goes. I disassembled the old relay to see how it works   (cut the cover off) with this relay in and a pocket screwdriver closing the circuit the engine will turn over BUT there's no spark. I also have replaced the distributor(crankangle position sensor)& tried juckyard ECU. I have cleaned all ground connections. The car did not run when I purchased for $100 with broken conneting rod. It's been rebuilt now & needs to run. Any help would be GREAT!!!

Answer
Kenneth,

If it turns over but will not start and there is no ignition firing the plugs then I would say you need to look at the distributor to make sure the optical pickup is working.  Second would be hotwiring the coil to see if you get a spark.  I would check the related fuese to the ignition and the fuse links at the battery on the positive terminal.  Since you say it had a rod bad I assume the engine has been in and out so there could be a wire loose too.
