Nissan Repair: I30 transmission delayed shift cold, mileage vehicle, oil additives

Question
I have a 1996 I30 with 114,000 miles.  It suffers from delayed shift (4,000 rpm's) when cold.  After 10 minutes or so it shifts fine.  I changed the fluid (no shavings), and added trans conditioner but hasn't helped yet (only about 20 miles since change).  Any suggestions?  Common problem?

Thanks

Answer
HI Rodney,

Unfortunately, the transmission is shot. You will need to have it rebuilt due to the seals inside the transmission have become hardened. After the car warns up the seals become pliable. There is a danger in changing fluid on a higher mileage vehicle which will cause complete failure in about 2 weeks or so after changing. Sorry, wish I had better news. Not a common problem with the Nissans. Incidentally, shavings in a transmission are not a sign of problems but an occurrence during the manufacturing process. Unless, of course there is a recognizable part in the pan! LOL In the future, save your money by passing on the "snake oil" additives. If they worked, I wouldn't be in business ;).
