Nissan Repair: Start up on 2001 Nissan Xterra, nissan xterra, clutch pedal

Question
I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra with manual trans. "5 speed" 2 wheel drive. The past 2 days in a row when I put the key in the ignition and turn, my dash light and everything comes on, but I get nothing, no turn over at all. I'll turn the key off, then back on again to start and sometimes it starts and others times it takes 3 or 4 tries of turning the key back and forth? Any Ideas?

Answer
Mitchell,

Check the clutch safety switch.  When you push the clutch pedal it completes the starter circuit.  If the switch at the top of the pedal is defective the truck will not start.  Wire around the switch to check it.  Be sure the pedal is depressed or the truck is in neutral before you try to start or it might take off.  If it starts fine replace the switch.
