Nissan Repair: fuel filter 95 200sx, fuel pressure gauge, nissan 200sx

Question
i have a 95 nissan 200sx and it wouldn't start this morn. i have full battery and the starter turns over. fuel or spark was my next thought. so i replaced the fuel filter and it started on the first turn then died.  how do i check the fuel pump? what else could be the prob?

Answer
Jen,

It is probably the fuel pump.  For about $35 bucks you can purchase a fuel pressure gauge to check for fuel pressure to see if the pump is working and the regulator is working.  It just screws into the schrader valve on the fuel line that feeds the injectors.  Look on the engine and you will see a valve cap that looks like the ones on your wheels.  There is the point you screw the pressure gauge into.  Be careful taking the fuel pressure gauge line off and use a rag as it will squirt a little gas out when you disconnect it.
