Nissan Repair: 1997 nissan sentral Electrical problem, nissan sentral, nissan sentra

Question
i have a 97 Nissan sentra. I recently had some 17" rims installed by a professional. However ever since i got the car back i have been having electrical problems. i also would like to note that i custom installed some euro headlight 7 months prior that were working just fine.

I was driving the car 2 weeks ago it was getting dark so my lights were on.As i came to red light i noticed that all the lights in the console were blinking and then they all got solid and very bright. This happened when as i braked, i also notice a little smoke coming from were the fuse panel inside the car is. Not only that but i realized that my speedometer stopped working and my stereo stopped working and then the interior light. i was lucky enough to make it back home and that is when my all my exterior lights went out as well.

the next morning i took a look at the fuse box and my wiper fuse was blown, my stereo fuse and when i took my dash console out there was a resistor that was smoked! when i looked at my engines fuse box it had a 40 fuse(on the Batt position) where there should've bee a 75 but non of those fuses were blown.

So i replaced the defective fuses, swaped  the 40 fuse with an original 75. and replaced the electrical sheet on the dash that had a blown resister.

Now when i drove the car again the speedometor doesnt work, the brake lights and all still dont work, the wiper fuse still gets blown, the blinkers dont blink, and my car died on me the other day . i was driving normal and then it got slower and slower even if i had the accelerator all the way! it eventually stoped i couldnt get it back on.

i have no idea what it could be, cause the battery is new if u can help on this issue i would greatly appriciate it.
Thanx alot and pardon the long explination!lol

Answer
Wil,

If the Euro headlights are HID and the kit is not grounded properly it will backfeed too much voltage into your harness causing the blown fuses and resistor.  Also, I have seen some installs where the ground on an aftermarket amplifier has taken out all the lights on the vehicle and the alternator too.  The ground on an aftermarket amplifier has to be almost as large as the battery cable and grounded to the chassis with a good connection and that means clean the paint off and get a bolt or self tapping screw that is large enough for the job and use a star washer to get a good bite on the metal.  I would check the connections to the lights and grounds along with the one for the amplifier and then take all the light bulbs out and check to see if they are blown.  The Toyota truck I repaired, with the bad ground on a 1000 watt amplifier even blew the tag light and all those lights in the cluster.  If the speedometer does not work the compute freaks out because that is where the computer picks up the vehicle speed.  If it does not read a vehicle speed it thinks you are sitting still so I would correct this one as soon as possible.
