Nissan Repair: changing headlight on 2005 Maxima, new car warranty, negative battery cable

Question
How do I change the headlight on a 2005 Maxima?  I went to AutoZone and the guy informed me that he could not do it.  I have an 1156 back up bulb that I purchased from Auto Zone, he said that was the one I needed.  But, I don't know what I'm suppose to do.

Answer
Hi Joyce,

I really don't like those guys at A-Z. LOL This is one of the easiest proceedures on your car. He gave you the wrong bulb though. You will need a special bulb you will likely need to get from the dealer. Part number 262969B913 without zeon for about $54 and part number 262979F510 with zeon for about $122. This should be covered under your new car warranty, so check into that before you replace it.

Bulb Replacement

HEADLAMP

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Turn the plastic cap counterclockwise to unlock it from the combination lamp. It's a plastic thingie that is at the back of the actual lamp under the hood.
Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to unlock it.
Unlock the retaining spring and remove the bulb from the combination lamp.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

CAUTION: After installing the bulb, be sure to install the plastic cap securely to ensure watertightness.

CAUTION: Avoid touching the bulb with your bear hands.
