Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan altima, nissan altima, oil contamination

Question
Von-
The other night my altima stalled while driving about 20 mins.it puttered and then cut off while driving.I was able to restart it about an hr later.I drove it home about 4 miles and then it cut off again. It starts and runs for about 5-10 minutes.I replaced the plugs thinking it was that.it wasnt.Today i replace the fuel filter and let it run for about 30 mins and it did fine.after about 3 hrs i started it again and turned it off. I tried to restart but it just turns over and doesnt restart. What do you think it is? A friend thought it was the ignition coil.I tried that as well but no luck.

Answer
Tim,

Check the fuel pump pressure to see if you have a defective pump or relay.  If the pressure if fine then I would check the distributor for oil contamination on the optics.  If you find oil on the optical shutter wheel I would replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit.  From a previous post you will see that Nissan wants $600 for a rebuilt unit and you can go to a parts store and get one for as little as $250 bucks.
