Nissan Repair: Loud rattle when heater fan runs, nissan maxima se, 2003 nissan maxima

Question
Hello,

I own a 2003 Nissan Maxima SE and there is a loud rattle that sounds like it's coming from underneath the glovebox somewhere.  I'm guessing it's something to do with the heating fan because it stops if I turn off the fan.  I can also feel a bit of vibration in the area underneath the glovebox.  It seems to occur most often when I start the car after it has been sitting for a while.  After driving for a while, around 30 minutes or so, the rattle changes from constant to intermittent and then suddenly stops.  Changing the fan speed doesn't seem to stop it or make it any less loud.  The only thing that does stop it is turning the fan off completely.  Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem and whether it's expensive to repair?

Thanks for all your help!

Answer
Jay,

Take the glove box off and under the dash you will see the blower motor.  It takes a Phillips screwdriver to remove.  I would suspect the blower motor being bad.  But, to be sure that it is the blower motor and not just something stuck in the blower you will need to remove it to make sure.  The blower is under $100 bucks and all you need is a Phillips screwdriver to take the glove box off and the blower.
