Nissan Repair: 2005 Froniter Manual 6 speed, clutch masters, clutch pressure plate

Question
I bought this truck with 39k on it, and it drove perfectly. Now at 41k today the transmission started slipping badly. Tac ran up to 3 k just to get it moving. Got the burn smell, after 1 or 2 miles it seemed to have recovered. After it sat and cooled 2 hours, it did the same thing. I went to check fluid level, and can't find dip stick, or fill cap. Can I check this thing at home, or is it dealer only service?

Answer
Ken,

The clutch needs to be replaced.  The transmission uses GL4 fluid and that is not the problem.  Change the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bushing and it will be good as new.  If you have done clutches before you could do it.  But, there are places like Clutch Masters that can do it in a day and it will be around $600 bucks out the door.  If you have a 4X4 it will be more.
