Nissan Repair: Altima 2002 3.5SE ABS, Traction off and Slip lights, valve cover gasket, volt ohm meter

Question
Good evening,

I run a 2002 Altima V6 3.5 SE. I seem to have some engine problems since
the last few weeks. First off, sometimes when I'm pressing the brake pedal, I
can feel the ABS coming on "softly".  Then, once I must accelerate over
50mph the slip light is coming on and the engine seems to have a misfire (?).
Once the engine have several misfires (like 20 or so in a 5 minutes period),
the ABS, Slip and Traction off lights come on and stay on until I turn the
engine off. The car seems harder on gas (I run premium gas). My dealer
doesn't seems to know what is going on. I've changed the 6 ignition coils,
with the spark plugs and noticed that one coil was sitting in the oil. So, I've
also changed the valve cover gasket and the valve cover itself. Everything
when well for a few days but now the slip light is coming on and off, in no
particular parttern. The engine is misfiring again. Would you have any ideas?
Thanks,

J-R

Answer
JR,

Either you have a bad plug or another coil is defective.  The slip and ABS light should not come on like they are.  I would make sure the brake fluid is clean and the pads are in good order.  Use Simple Green on the rotors and wash with a hose and change the brake fluid and see if that solves the problem.  Check the coils using a volt ohm meter and if one is out of range change it.  Also, change the plugs if you have not done so.
