Nissan Repair: instrument cluster trouble, nissan xterra, bad cluster

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra and the speedo, tach, and temp guage go dead after a while of driving. I noticed that so far it only happens when the headlights are on. Sometimes they will kick back on while driving, or go on and off. Occasionally, the speedo and tach will freeze at a certain position. If I shut down the truck for a while, when I start up again, they are fine. Could this be a bad connection somewhere, or a bad cluster?

Answer
Frank,

Most probably a bad connection at the cluster.  Remove the cluster and get a number 2 pencil and clean the contacts on both the cluster and the harness connector and reinstall the cluster.  It should work fine afterwards.  Email me back with what you find.
