Nissan Repair: 91 240sx sudden starting problem., haynes manual, socket wrench

Question
I have a 1991 240sx that will no longer start.  Over the course of the last 5 days, every time I started the car, the starter would turn the engine over slower and slower with each attempt, until now there is no activity from the starter whatsoever.  I took the battery to Sears, and their test showed the battery was in good health, and near-fully charged.    If this should be a problem with starter, is it difficult to replace with the normal socket/wrench sets found often in home garages?

Answer
Joe,

It is not diffcult to change the starter and you only need metric hand tools.  But, what I would do first is take the battery to another store and get it charged first.  Then re-attempt to start.  If nothing, try starting the car while shifting from park to neutral and all the way to first to see if the starter safety switch is defective.  Keep your foot on the brake in case it starts.  You do not want it to move.  If it does not start replace the starter.  Get a Haynes manual or a Chilton for $20 bucks as the pictures are worth a thousand words.  If you have problems email me back.  Remember to disconnect the negative side of the battery before you start the process as the cable to the starter is hot all the time.
